Specifically catering to each stage of a child’s learning level to maintain literacy rates in the region.

Complementing the learning curve of children

Our education interventions are based on several baseline studies conducted, which showed lack of quality of teaching which prevented children from acquiring specific learning skills. Our aim is to bring about change by providing them the chance to learn in a creative and practical space.

We practice our “train-the trainer” model where teachers are provided with intensive training on how to involve children in the learning process. Many of the activities in our programmes are conducted with locally sourced materials.

The Education interventions is divided into five programmes – Strengthening Nali Kali, Learning Improvement Programme (LIP), Library, Proficiency in English (PIE) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The impact and transformation that we have created breathe through the community of Yadgir. We continue to learn from them and use their experiences to create a more personalised approach.

Proficiency in English

Yellappa was a shy student. He had difficulties in understanding and learning concepts. He was not confident about reading and writing english. Through Kalike’s Proficiency in English program, Yellapa today is confident about reading aloud in the class, his comprehension skills have shown marked improvement and he also actively participates in various class events. He has won several prizes for hand writing, reciting rhymes, etc.

The Joy of Reading

The library was restructured and renovated in this village and village school, but people wanted to safe guard the books than read it. Kalike’s Library program put a system in place through which students now are encouraged to borrow and read the books. The biggest recognition came when about 8 students opened their own school library.

Little Library, Big World

The Kalike library initiative not only sets up libraries in dedicated spaces in schools, but has also encouraged students to collect books and set up home libraries of their own.
