A multi-pronged approach to WASH

Our baseline studies showed that Yadgir district has little or no access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.

The area is drought-ridden and much of the water found within the region is not potable. The community lacks awareness about issues of health. Without any access to toilets or sanitation, the result is widespread open defecation leading to a high incidence of water-borne diseases. The lack of access to clean water and toilets in the region has had a severe impact on the quality of health and hygiene.

By engaging with the community, we actively aim to change the mindset of the community towards increase in the utilization of safe drinking water, improved sanitation and good hygiene practices. Since much of the groundwater has high quantities of nitrate and fluoride, research in appropriate technology is underway.

In Yadgir and Koppal districts, interventions have created lasting change through a combination of behaviour change initiatives, infrastructure support, and strong community engagement. Delivering sustainable WASH solutions that ensure access to clean water, improved sanitation, and better hygiene practices for all.

Water security

Water Security initiative aims to ensure reliable, safe, and sustainable water access for rural communities in Yadgir district. Through a combination of water harvesting structures, quality monitoring, and community planning, the program supports long-term water availability and strengthens resilience to climate variability.
Water security is fundamental to health, agriculture, livelihoods, and dignity. Without safe and sufficient water, communities face disease, economic hardship, and social inequity. Ensuring year-round access to potable water is essential for breaking poverty cycles and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6 and others).

WASH in School

Focuses on creating healthy, inclusive, and dignified learning environments through integrated water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions. The project is part of a broader Mission 2030 strategy and aligns with Kalike’s goal to foster holistic child development through safe WASH practices in schools.
School-based WASH model includes infrastructure development (toilets, handwashing stations, drinking water), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), behaviour change education, inclusive sanitation for children with disabilities, and community engagement through School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMCs).

Breaking Taboo, Empowering Women – MHM

In rural, menstrual health remains shrouded in stigma, misinformation, and unsafe practices. Many girls and women lack access to proper hygiene products, leading to health risks, school absenteeism, and social exclusion. The Kalike MHM initiative is transforming lives by promoting awareness, access, and dignity.  Women & Girls completed MHM training modules on Education, Sustainable Products, Waste Management & Hygiene.
